HOW DIFFICULT IS A MARINE AQUARIUM TO KEEP ?
This is the most common question asked by people thinking about keeping a marine aquarium for the first time.
A lot of the fear about starting to keep marine aquaria stems from the early days when less was known about the organisms and their needs. These days we have progressed in our knowledge and the use of natural methods of filtration has made the hobby for most fish keepers much simpler.
With our guidance we are confident that most people can keep a simple reef-type aquarium with little difficulty.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO DO WATER CHANGES IN MY MARINE AQUARIUM ?
Water changes in a marine aquarium can vary depending on the system. Anywhere from... 20% every 2 weeks to once every few months, the general rule remains: The more frequently... you do your water changes, the better your result.
IS LIVE ROCK ALIVE ?
The answer is yes and no. The rock itself is not alive, but it did grow. Live rock grows over time, as the reef building corals grow and die. Today, in the hobby, the term "live" in live rock really refers to all the live organisms and bacteria that inhabit the rock.
The Fiji rock we supply is a great example of this. All kinds of plants, copepods, and bacteria come loaded on this rock, which in turn seeds your new setup with many of the microbes and tiny bacteria needed for a healthy aquarium.
NOTE: Live rock is in our opinion the most important factor for success. you should aim for between ½ - 1kg of live rock per 5lts of salt water.
